The Lake's Nothing Ever Happens, And It's Happening Right Now! draws it's considerable strengths from a long lineage that includes Pavement, The Replacements and Thin Lizzy, among others. In five tracks The Lake manages to give voice to the confusion and nostalgia that comes with growing up. The songs' character and emotion reflect on their past, stumble through the present and wonder what's over the horizon. But God knows they're having fun in the meantime. The band's pop sensibility lends levity to stories about squandered potential and the possibility of forgiveness in “Indian Summer” and the growing distance between old friends in “Charlie”.
This EP builds on the success of their debut, Have A Kick Ass Summer, and showcases the promise of this up and coming band.
